Hello Families,

This is Baker Principal Amy Latimer with your weekly updates.  We had a fun spirit week with enthusiastic participation.  We ended the week with a rambunctious spirit assembly that recognized our session 3 athletes and allowed students to have some fun competition between grade levels engaging in silly games.

I am once again asking for your help with our morning attendance.  We have so many students coming late in the mornings.  It is not only impacting our attendance rates, but it also has an impact on grades.  When students come late to first period, they not only are missing instruction, but their late arrival is causing a disruption to the classroom and hurting the learning of others.  We have some days when we have up to 100 students late to 1^st period. We need to do better.  Our students need to do better. Please take some time to talk with your family about systems and routines that can be established so that we can have a timelier start to the school day.  Our doors open at 7:15 a.m. for breakfast and the bell for class rings at 7:35. We hope this helps with your planning.

TPS and the Rainiers are teaming up for a night at the ballpark on May 27. All Tacoma Public Schools attendees are invited to participate in the pre-game parade on the baseball field. Get more details and buy tickets on our website.

Families of elementary and middle school students can start registering Monday, March 23, for Beyond the Bell and Club B – known here at Baker as Bulldog Center -  a set of fun and engaging after-school programming.
